Building Sand

Exceptionally high quality building sand, suitable for mortar, plastering or other uses.

Extracted from a sand deposit in the North of Scotland and carefully screened to ensure it meets the grading requirements of a 0/2mm fine sand. With very low moisture content, this sand is excellent value for money.

Available from GPH in loose loads, directly from our source, bulk bags or in small bags, there is a solution for every requirement.

The approximate quantity within the small bag is 20kg 

These bags are available to collect from any GPH Branch. A pallet contains 50 bags.

When it comes to using your building sand, a 1:4 ratio mortar mix using plasticiser is usually chosen for mixing a sand : cement mortar, for building.

For a reasonable sized project you will require a Cement Mixer, which can be bought or hired from GPH Builders Merchants.

Then you will require a good quality bagged cement, such as Blue Circle Mastercrete Cement. This is packaged in a plastic bag which can be kept outside.

You will also require a Cement Plasticiser such asOpti-Mix Mortar Plasticiser  which will make the mortar much more workable and will not stick to your trowel.

Finally, get yourself a good Builders Bucket to  add water to your cement mixer.

Kirkhill Quarry is the source of one of the highest quality building sands and coarse sands in the North of Scotland.

Within the quarry is an excellent 0/2mm sand suitable for use as a Building Sand, Fine Sand, Mortar Sand, Plastering Sand, Rendering Sand or Asphalt Sand, all compliant with BS EN 13139.

Also available is a Fine Concrete Sand which complies to BS EN 12620

The sand is favoured by many local builders and contractors for its consistency and cleanliness.
